The Kappa Epsilon Idealism

In an era wooed by such widely divergent influences as the Woodstock generation in America and militant student activism sweeping across campuses in Manila, this brotherhood of lofty minded individuals grew and flourished. Today, there are members throughout the world spreading its message of goodwill and espousing the ideals of brotherhood through service to our fellowmen..

Kappa Epsilon Fraternity was founded in the late 1960's by a group of students from the College of Engineering of the University of the Philippines. There were (12) twelve founding members headed by Alvin Manalang. It was dream of these individuals to give other students an option to join a non-traditional fraternity. They used the greek letters Kappa and Epsilon since the ideal that the fraternity aspired to was Knowledge, Equality and Enlightenment.

From a few members, the Kappa Epsilon Fraternity grew to have a significant presence in the University of the Philippines, active in major changes that where happening in the Academe. The student leaders looked up to the fraternity for leadership and guidance. The picture below was taken after a meeting that the fraternity conducted at Vinzon's Hall. That building is the center of all student activities since it all houses the University Student Council Headquarters and the Office of Student Affairs. The Kappa Epsilon Fraternity became co-founders of the famed League of Filipino Students, SAMASA and many other student organizations.

Founders of the Brotherhood

The University of the Philippines was founded in 1908 in Manila with the aim of cultivating the minds of talented Filipinos for the advancement of the country. After 60 years the fraternity was also founded to harness the cultivated minds of the Filipino youth starting from the students of the famed state university in Diliman, Quezon City. Twelve idealistic minds formed a brotherhood that would change and touch many lives. The Brotherhood became the corner stone of many student body activities. From the state university the fraternity members eventually recruited students form other universities and colleges to from chapters across the country.
